A meme.

Because I still can't think of anything else to blog about other than my sour mood. I'm sorry. I know "listening" to me whine about nothing is not why you come to read. So I figured I'd do something a little fun. A while back, there was a little "meme" going around where you were supposed to post the 6th picture in the 6th folder of pictures from your computer. It looked like fun, but I didn't do it for a while because I was never home when I thought about it. But I sat here for a while looking at the little blinking cursor wanting to blog something, and that came to me. So here goes. The 6th picture in the 6th folder. My folders are by date, so this one's from the summer of 2006.


It's Stephen. Eating something. It looks like it might be a small can of fruit, I guess. Although, I can't remember ever buying little cans of fruit like that. It's certainly not something I would buy today. And I'll also point out (since someone is going to notice it, for sure, and I'd rather point it out first) that the wall behind him looks kinda gross. Not sure how something would have gotten thrown or splashed back there. BUT, Stephen looks so young and pudgy there. So cute. Looking at pictures of my kids always reminds me of how stinkin' cute they are. I guess it's harder for me to see that in real life because pictures don't talk back, whine, or smell.

Simple Satisfaction

Here's a sort of meme that Shannon started and that my cousin did. I thought it looked fun, so here's a short list of some small, simple things that are very satisfying and that make me happy:

*watching my kids eat ice cream cones or homemade cookies

*sending someone an e-mail and then having them reply immediately (it tickles me to think that that person is sitting at their computer at that very moment, too)

*reading out of chapter books with the kids at night (I love how they remember what happened in previous chapters/books and how excited they get to see what happens next)

A Christmas Meme

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper and a bow(if it's being shipped, no bow)....unless I have a gift that just can't be wrapped.

2. Real tree or Artificial? artificial...I'd love to do real, but it's just easier to have a fake one.

3. When do you put up the tree? Generally the weekend after Thanksgiving....but with Sweet Hubby's new job, that was out of the question, so this year we did it the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

4. When do you take the tree down? Usually between Dec. 26 and Dec. 31. I can't stand to look at it after Christmas, so I take it down as soon as I get a chance.

5. Do you like eggnog? I don't know....

6. Favorite gift received as a child? Um....I can recall a few....but I don't know which would be my favorite.

7. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes. A cheapy $10 one from Wally World...It's an all one piece kind of thing where the pieces are glued down to the bottom. But Joseph came loose a couple years ago and Mary came loose this year, so they travel now. I'm surprised something hasn't gotten broken yet....but my feelings won't be hurt if it does.

8. Hardest person to buy for? Hmmm...my father-in-law? I usually can find something for everyone.

9. Easiest person to buy for? Sweet Hubby. He has an ongoing wish list all year round!

10. Worst Christmas gift ever received? I can't think of anything really bad...

11. Mail or email Christmas card? Sadly, neither. I always have good intentions to send out a card, but for some reason, it never happens.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Oh, there are just too many. A Christmas Story, It's a Wonderful Life, the original Miracle on 34th Street....the list goes on and on.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? After Thanksgiving.

14. Have you ever recycled/re gifted a Christmas present? I don't think so....

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? My grandma's fiesta crescents, pecan pie, homemade cookies.

16. Favorite Christmas song? O Holy Night, and in a very close second, O Come Emmanuel

17. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Travel, I guess. On Christmas Day we go to my grandma's house, but she only lives an hour away.

18. Can you name Santa's reindeer? Sleepy, Sneezy, Dopey, Grumpy.....oh, wait....

19. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? One Christmas eve and all the rest on Christmas morning.

20. Most annoying thing about this time of year? White Elephant Christmas exchanges.

21. Best thing about Christmas? Christmas Eve. Drinking hot chocolate, eating warm from the oven cookies, reading the Nativity Story from the bible and 'Twas the Night Before Christmas with the kids.

Katiebug tagged me for a fun food meme. And I haven't done a meme in a while...not because I haven't been tagged, but I just haven't gotten around to them.


1. How do you like your eggs? Runny. Cooked just a second longer than it takes for the salmonella die. Not a fan of fried and I'll eat a hard boiled egg once in a while.


2. How do you take your coffee/tea? With vanilla cream and a little sugar


3. Favorite breakfast food: eggs and cinammon rolls...maybe bacon if someone else cooks it. I can't be trusted to cook bacon.


4. Peanut butter - smooth or crunchy? Smooth and preferably "honey roasted" as well



5. What kind of dressing on your salad? Vinegarette or honey mustard (but only honey mustard if there are red onions in the salad)



6. Coke or Pepsi? Yech, neither. Barq's Root Beer, please.



7. You’re feeling lazy, what do you make? cheerios. That's all I ever eat if I'm eating by myself.



8. You’re feeling really lazy. What kind of pizza do you order? beef and onions


9. You feel like cooking. What do you make? Tacos. Or maybe some fancy chicken dish.



10. Do any foods bring back good memories? Nothing really comes to mind right now.



11. Do any foods bring back bad memories? Once my ex-boyfriend's family ate bratwurst and made me clean out the pan that it had marinated in with beer and onions. I don't eat bratwurst, but whenever I see one or hear the name, my stomach turns just a little.



12. Do any foods remind you of someone? Eating at Schlotzky's reminds me of my best friend.



13. Is there a food you refuse to eat? Oh, seafood. Yuck, yuck, yuck. And I threaten Sweet Hubby that I'm eating alone at a different table if he orders it when we eat out.



12. What was your favorite food as a child? Hmmm....I don't know. I remember making hot ham and cheese sandwiches every day after school and thinking I was in heaven when I sat down in my bean bag chair to watch "Tailspin" to eat it.



13. Is there a food that you hated as a child but now like? I used to loathe lasagna (something about the cheese), but now once in a while I crave a good homemade lasagna.



14. Is there a food that you liked as a child but now hate? I can't think of anything.....



15. Favorite fruit and vegetable: I'm a meat and potatoes kinda girl, but I'm getting better about eating my 5 to 9. Bananas or cantaloupe would be my favorite fruit and these days I make sweet potatoes at least once a week because I'm beginning to like them so much.



16. Favorite junk food: milkshakes? oreo milkshakes to be exact.



17. Favorite between meal snack: This probably sounds a little weird, but it's something I started eating when I was pregnant with Z and I was diabetic: string cheese and graham crackers.



18. Do you have any weird food habits? I think everyone in my family could give you a list of my weird habits. I don't eat the ends of french fries. And I don't like crunchy/crispy fries. Or crunchy/crispy bacon. Come to think of it, I like most of my food a little undercooked.



19. You’re on a diet. What food(s) do you fill up on? LOL. I'm the last person that needs to be on a diet...hmmmm.....water, salads, grilled chicken.



20 . You’re off your diet. Now what would you like? guacamole, warm brownies, any kind of breakfast baked good....not all together, of course.



21. How spicy do you order Indian/Thai? I don't like spicy or Indian or Thai.

Kelli tagged me for the 7 random habits/facts meme that's going around. Since I just had my "100 things" post 1o posts ago, this is the short sequel. Hang on to your seat people...this is some riveting blogging.

1. On televisions and radios where the volume has numbers, my volume number always has to be even. It makes me nervous if it's not.

2. All of my kids (and myself) have 9 syllables in their full name. And that's not a coincidence.

3. I played the lead role in "Amahl and the Night Visitors" in high school.

4. I love spring and summer because I can go barefoot more often. That's the only reason I love spring and summer.

5. Until high school, I always pronounced the word crayon wrong. And I didn't know it until my friends pointed it out and made fun of me (because that's what high school friends are for, right?). I realize now that it probably wasn't just me because Stephen says it the same way I did. "Crown".

6. I only get my haircut 2-3 times a year. I wish I could do it more, but time gets away from me and I have to earmark the money months before I get it.

7. Even if I'm not paying attention to the TV, the "Breaking News" sound on Fox News always brings me running to the TV from where ever I am in the house. And I can't tell you how much I hadn't wasted the energy to come running when they told me Paris was going to be spending 45 days in jail.

There's lots of things I want to do, but what's been on my mind lately is moving out of the town we live in to live closer to where my family and our church is.

Love and Marriage...

ksl tagged me for this. I think she knows what a silly fool I am for feeling all special when someone tags me for a meme! ;) I love these...this one's about my marriage.


1. Where/How did you meet? This isn't information I usually offer up since I try to avoid the kinds of looks I get when I tell people, but what the hey....my aunt introduced us. Turns out his uncle is married to my aunt. They married years before either of us were born and we went our entire lives without knowing each other. Then one day she set us up to meet.

2. How long have you known each other?: for a little over 7 years, we met in person on Oct 23, 1999. We had talked on the phone for about a week before.

3. How long after you met did you start dating?: We started dating when we met. Not love at first sight, but pretty darn close.

4. How long did you date before you were engaged?: 2.5 months.

5. How long was your engagement?: 10 months.

6. How long have you been married?: almost 6.5 years

7. What is your anniversary?: Nov 4, 2000

8. How many people came to your wedding reception: About 125, I think.

9. What kind of cake did you serve?: A friend of my mom's made the wedding cake and the groom's cake. To be honest, I don't remember what kind...just plain ol' wedding cake, but it was purty AND tasty. In my experience, that's not a common combination in wedding cakes.

10. Where was your wedding?: First United Methodist Church of Houston-Westchase.

11. What did you serve for your meal?: Roast beef, swedish meatballs, vegetable crudite and some kind of potatoes, I think...again, I don't really remember (it almost seems silly now, the amount of thought that I and my parents put into all of it since I can't remember most of it). I do remember the really good rolls, though.

12. How many people were in your bridal party?: 2 bridesmaids, 1 junior bridesmaid, 3 groomsmen, 1 junior groomsmen and a couple of ushers.

13. Are you still friends with them all?: Just one of my bridesmaids, my dearest friend Alison. And Sweet Hubby is still in touch with the groomsmen that he's related to.

14. Did your spouse cry during the ceremony?: Yes, he was so choked up that he whispered everything and no one could hear him.

15. Most special moment of your wedding day?: Before we got married, Sweet Hubby and I would watch Mad TV (before it got nasty and vulgar) every Saturday night. The night of our wedding as we left our reception, we collapsed into the limo and watched Mad TV....and then laughed at how sad we were being so tired and watching TV on our wedding night.

16. Any funny moments?: Sweet Hubby danced like I had never seen him dance before (and haven't seen since). I laughed so hard at him....you just have to know him...he's not the dancing type.

17. Any big disasters?: Not that I know of. My mom runs a pretty good interference with things like this. And my dad runs a pretty good intereference for her.

18. Where did you go on your honeymoon?: Nowhere right away. We had to change the date of our wedding several times and by the time we finally got it settled, Sweet Hubby couldn't change his vacation date from work. Not to mention we were broke. So we waited a year and went to Disney World for our first anniversary.

19. How long were you gone? 5 days.

20. If you were to do your wedding over, what would you change? I would have had bagpipes play at some point in the wedding. I just love them. And I'll ditto what ksl said, it would have been wonderful to have Gram and Papa there.

21. What side of the bed do you sleep on?: The side farthest from the door.

22. What size is your bed?: Queen.

23. Greatest strength as a couple?: We have the same values and the same "map" for where our lives and our family is going. We come through problems fairly easily and move on pretty quickly.

24. Greatest challenge as a couple?: Like a lot of people, money. We don't always agree about it and it's been a sticking point for 6.5 years.

25. Who literally pays the bills?: He used to, but I'm taking a much more active role in our finances lately. I've paid the bills that we pay online.

26. What is your song? : It changes a lot...I'm not sure we even have one now.... do grown-ups have a "song"?

27. What did you dance your first dance to?: Oh, gimme a sec....I'll think of it...it's by Keith Urban....OH! "Everything" or "I Wanna Be Your Everything" or something sappy like that.

28. Describe your wedding dress: Sleevless, boat neck with lace and embellishment around the middle. Big skirt with lots of layers, chapel length train.

29. What kind of flowers did you have at your wedding?: White and red roses. That's pretty much it.

30. Are your wedding bands engraved? What do they say? Mine's too small to be engraved (I have tiny fingers), but I had his engraved..."All my love, All my life"

ABCs of Homemaking

My cousin tagged me for this meme and I was so excited. I've seen it floating around the blogosphere and was secretly hoping I'd get tagged. It looks like fun! Here goes!

Aprons- Y/N? Yes! I have a pretty green one I made and when I think about it, I wear it. I think I'm going to start wearing it more often though. There's a part of me that thinks I might be more productive if I do. I've also made some really cute ones that I sold on eBay.

Baking- Favorite thing to bake? Brownies. Out of the box. With frosting.

Clothesline- Y/N? Actually, one came with the house. The only thing it's good for at this point, though, is collecting spider webs that I seem to walk through every time I go outside. I prefer the dryer or to hang dry in the house.

Donuts- Ever made them? I don't know anyone that's ever made a donut. That thought has never even occurred to me!

Everyday- One homemaking thing you do everyday? Some part of the laundry process. On the weekend I either put a load on or switch a load to the dryer or fold a load. On the weekdays, I do at least one maybe two loads a day.

Freezer- Do you have a separate deep freezer? It's a chest freezer, does that count? So far, the only thing it's been good for is holding food that we don't really eat.

Garbage Disposal- Y/N? No, it's been years since we've lived in a house that has one. But when we remodel the kitchen, that's going to be one of the investments. Until then, we take the trash out everyday.

Handbook- Y/N? If a "handbook" is an unusually large bright red diaper bag, then yes.

Ironing- Love it or hate it? Hate it. Only do it for really special occasions and for my sewing. For hubby's work clothes, two words: wrinkle free.

Junk Drawer- Where is it? In the coffee table drawer.

Kitchen- Design and decorating? There's not much decoration there. White walls, oak cabinets and yellow counters. That'll all change with the remodel though. I think it's going to be yellow walls and cabinets, white counters and brushed nickel hardware.

Love- What is your favorite part of homemaking? Seeing that my hard work pays off. Looking at a clean house and a closet full of clean laundry.

Mop- Y/N? Do I own one? Yes. Do I use it? No. Terrible, I know. Sweet Hubby mops once in a while, though.

Nylons- Wash by hand or in the washer? By hand, when I wash them. Which isn't often because I don't wear them but a few times before I ruin them.

Oven- Do you use the window or open it to check? Open, open, open.

Pizza- What do you put on yours? Beef, extra cheese, easy on the sauce.

Quiet- What do you do during the day when you get a quiet moment? Usually read or catch up on my fave sites.

Recipe card box- Y/N? Nope. Just a cabinet full of stray papers, books and a binder that I intended to organize way back when. So I suppose I just have a large recipe box.

Style of house- Standard Texas house, I guess. One story, 3 bed, 2 bath, 1600 sq ft.

Tablecloths and napkins- Y/N? I use vinyl tablecloths on the floor for when the kids play Play-doh or eat out of the breakfast room. Otherwise, that's a big fat NO.

Under the kitchen sink- It's kind of a catch all for the kitchen. It's got some plastic grocery bags, extra placemats for the kids, some yogurt containers and some other random things I haven't thought of in a while. Cleaning supplies are on a high shelf in the utility room.

Vacuum- How many times a week? Can I plead the fifth? Although, I got a little mini-vacuum for Christmas that Stephen loves, so it's happening a bit more often. And will probably happen a lot more when Marc-Adam starts finding things to eat off the floor.

Wash- How many loads do you do a week? About 7 or 8, I'd guess, I've never actually counted.

X's- Do you keep a list of things to do and cross them off? Mentally. A list would probably get eaten, scribbled on, peanut buttered or thrown away. So what's the point?

Yard- Who does what? Sweet Hubby does it all....whatever he wants to do or not do is fine by me. As long as I don't lose the children in the yard, I'm good.

ZZZ's- What is your last homemaking task for the day? Just before I crawl in bed, I fold the load of laundry that got dumped there at some point earlier in the day.

why when Daddy's home we have to take his van all the time when Mommy's van is the one with the CD and DVD players
why mommy starts making funny noises and starts waving her arms when Jube licks me in my mouth...it's funny, Mom.
why brother can have this thing called gum and I can't

Alli wants

My cousin Kelli did this on her blog (and THANKS to Kelli who helped me to learn how to do that link!). I've done it before, but thought I'd try again since it's been a while and last time it was really fun. Try it for yourself...google your name and the word "wants" to see what comes up. Alli wants to put sixth grade behind her and finally stop being invisible. She wants to be popular and have a breakout year in seventh grade.
