Don't color in your food....

There are times in my life as a mother (as I'm sure there are in the lives of every mother with small children) that I think, "What just came out of my mouth? What did I just say?" Being a mother of a toddler/preschooler seems to do something to you....it seems to make you say things that sound totally and completely absurd. Of course, in the moment, it's just the right thing to say. Taken out of context or heard by a stranger, it's ridiculous. Here are just a small list of mine:

Don't color in your food!
No, vegetables do not wear underwear.
Get your foot out of your muffin.
Are you licking the TV?
Please, don't ride your brother.
Keep your spit in your mouth.
Take your sheep out of your pants, please.

Get the point? There have been so many of these moments for me. Hearing something like that come out of my own mouth tends to lighten a situation...whatever that situation might be. It just helps remind me what a wonderful job I have! Kids always keep things exciting and fun (even when I'm ready to pinch their heads off) and there is no such thing as an ordinary day!

I'm going to try to make an ongoing list of all the absurd things that I say over the years. I think it will be obvious when I'm done that I was the mom of three boys!

Yes, Weird saying abound in motherhood. My big one right now is- Do you have to go potty? No. Then unhand the penis. I have also said things like remove the cheese from your nose and take your hands out of the dog water. Keeping a list is a good idea, so you can remember just how crazy thing got.

Oh, this is so true, and so great! I say some freakish things too, especially with talking to other people's kids. Some of the things they tell me are hilarious.

I'm thinking of this now, so i'm going to post it even though it hasn't got anything to do with your blog. :)

I got the 2 tall swivelly Ethan Allen barstools that were Gram and Papa's, and I don't really have a place for them. I thought I would, but they're in the way. Is there a place at your house? Want 'em?

Sorry, don't know why that posted twice.

Hmmm...I have no idea when you posted this. Sorry if it's been a while and I haven't responded.

Man, I wish I had a place for them to live right now. I just don't. We're getting to remodel our kitchen and the bar is coming out so we'll have no bar to put them out. Thanks for thinking of me, though!

I would like to contribute a comment that I heard this morning from my daughter to her son: "Alexander! Go wash the marshmallows out of your ears!"
